Hello there

I called in after seeing your letter in the MAG mag (ha ha). Brilliant idea for a website. And after I've read other people''s stories I feel very lucky. I got my brill ( well I thought it was ) xj900 written off in June 2005, being hit by a boy racer, in of all places, my local tesco's petrol station!! My right foot was skewered by a foot peg and my right thigh bone snapped in two. Three years later I have a limp, no sensation in my bottom half of my foot, and lots of pain in my leg but I'm alive and still riding, just not as much as I used to.

The worst things about the accident was that people said I had only myself to blame for my injuries because I was a biker and riding a 900cc bike, my family saying they would disown me if I rode again, and the response from other bikers, who treated me like a leper. Thanks to my wife and true biker friends who supported me whilst recuperating and my decision to ride again.

Hi everyone

Been going to the head injury clinic in Aylesbury for a while now and only just noticed a poster for this site. What a great idea and so pleased to be in contact with people who have been through the same kind of thing.

Well this my story, probably similar to a few others.

Going to work on the 20th Dec 2006, riding my Pan European it was foggy but not so bad as not to be able to ride, about 2 mins from work I see a set of head lights coming towards me, then when I was about 10mtrs away another set appeared next to them, another car was bloody overtaking!!! I was doing 35 and he was doing about 45.
At the last moment I lent the bike two the left trying to avoid a full head on smack.
This resulted in:- broken / disclocated ankle, completely smashed lower leg, fractured upper leg, fractured hip, fractured wrist, comletely smashed lower arm, fractured / disclocated elbow, radial nerve damadge, internal bleeding and a head injury.
Came round on the 10th Jan 2007, Merry Xmas!
Spent 5 mnths in hospital, 7 mnths in plaster. Been left with permanent disablement in my right arm and right leg plus the memory loss. This is so frustrating, lost some long term memory and short term is very hit and miss. Need to write everything down.
For the last 8 mnths I have been in a battle with the DWP trying to get DLP and Mobility, I keep this for another day.

Look forward to chatting with you all

cheers Gary

Hi Pete,
took your suggestion and visted your site. Very informative

Not a biker myself but I have very much enjoyed reading everybody's posts.
I met Pete from the Head Injury clinic and found out that we have had similar careers.

My story:
I was involved in a car accident in Nov 2005 with which only myself was involved and suffered a TBI. I cannot remember why I was in the car and can't remember how I ended up crashing head on into a tree(not a good idea!) just round the corner of my house! My earliest recollection was about 2/3 weeks before my bash for my Sons birthday at Legoland.

My recovery has been a huge struggle the last 1yr and a half, to try and get myself back to some sort of normality, but have found that talking and meeting ppl with similar experiences a massive help.

Take care Pete and good luck with all your future endeavours

I am a biker from South Africa, and FWIW, I am blind from a major bike accident I had in November 2005, when someone in a car swerved into me and my wife on our BMw R1100GS, and I ended up in a coma for around 3--4 weeks, and I only really knew where I was, and that I couldn't see around 3 months later.
I got out of the hospital in March 2006, and I have done all sorts of 'training' to sort of make it possible to live at my own home, with a friend living with me, and I am back at work as a web developer for around the last month or so, and I must say, technology is amazing in relation to what I was expecting when I first realised I was now blind.

One more thing - inspired by a guy from the UK, called Billy Baxter, who's in the Guiness Book of Records for doing 180mph on a bike even though he's also blind - I have already ridden my other bike, a bandit 1200 streetfighter, up and down the main straight of Phakisa racetrack with a radio headset, so my friend could instruct me when to veer left, right, and when to stop. If you want to see photos, go to my bike club's website (http://www.hellrazors.co.za), look for the link to the 'gallery' on the left-hand side of the main page, and look for a gallery specific to 'phakisa' or 'razor rash', and you'll see me getting ready to ride, and I think there's also a photo of me actually going down the track.

Anyway, this is my first post, but I'll be back...

Cheers

Hi all, just popped in, following Petesa's link on MK bikers.
Good to see more familiar names around here, been a member of BCUK since 2005, live usually in MK, so could not evade to be enlisted by our queen of the pink bikes on MKbikers and found now a new forum to spend the dreadfull nightly hours far from home, my dear friends and my beloved bikes....Have 2 bikes, a 900 Divvie for the daily drag and a toy black Blade... Been terrorising the Tarmac for an odd 25 years...... Touch wood, have only a few minor scratches left from the time I was young, wild and innocent and do invest in proper armoured gear to minimise the risk on mayor damage. Those health insurances don't cover loss of work....
I've visited quite a lot hospitals and several funerals because of friends coming off, and have for some time been involved with disabled people, providing technical solutions to overcome practical problems in daily life. Nowadays technology can supply a lot to make life easier, the biggest problem I've seen is mainly the attitude of 'normal' society towards people with a disability. All the best, hope to meet up some moment with all you folks...

I've finally got round to signing onto the forum (sorry it's been so long Pete, still, better late than never! )

I'll be writing my account of Pete's accident shortly - there Pete, I've committed myself to write it now!!!!

hello guys just thought i'd return the favour (pete looked at my site)
i've been very lucky had quite alot of off's (5 in 1 year) but appart from damaging the ligaments to my knee walked away pretty much scott free, all my incidents were when i had my 125 (cg so off course i rode it flat out everywhere unfortunatly with drum brakes front and rear could'nt stop that quick) however i did lose my best mate 3 years ago (14th sept 2003) freekly the day before i found out i was pregnant with my little boy and i also nursed my now ex partner (nothing to with the accident) after his accident (bloody women drivers) he ended up with a broken pelvis a broken leg and took out a rather large amount of his leg on the master silender of the bike, its pretty difficult for partners as well how ever it hasn't stop either of us rideing if anything its made me all the more determined, i now ride a kawasaki zx6r and touch wood i haven't been down the road again.

Hi there,

I'm Loctite aka Arron
I've been riding 12 years both on the track and road.
I was known for being an experienced rider and a good laugh.

I've had to now quit riding "for health reasons"
I got taken out last September by a woman driver who jumped
a red light. She t-boned me writing off my 1995 Urban tiger Blade.
She also dislocated my big toe and right knee, this caused the
anteria and posteria cruciate ligaments and colateral ligaments
in my right knee to snap. I had two operations to try to reconstruct
my knee, including transplant ligaments from a donnor. The knee was about 80% stable and I was then about to start physio. The doctor cleared me to drive and ride again. So I went out a few times and it felt ok to ride. Then Friday night a month ago I met another idiot driver.

I rounded a blind left hander in a 40 zone, I was doing about 30 when a woman in a drive way on the right handside decided to reverse across her side of the road and into my path without looking.
I was given meters to stop in. I ended hitting her mid pillar of her car and head butting the roof before being fliped over the car and landing twisted.

I've came away with an open book fracture of the pelvis, which has been opperated on and i'm currently wearing an external fixator pinned in 6 places into my hips. I also received a broken wrist.

Both me and my brilliant girlfriend Suzi are now giving up on bikes. She did have an 05 R6 and I had an extremly tricked up 05 Repsol FireBlade.

I'm lucky to be here after the second smash and even asked to die at the scene but no one wanted me yet. I'm going to be out of this fixator in 7 weeks and I'm going to stick to my other hobbies of Jet sking and scuba diving.

Hi Guys,
Just popped in to say hi... My real name is Dave Tye, I'm 28 and live in Hullbridge, Essex.

Been riding for years, had a couple of bad accidents/injuries... One on the road and one racing. Most recent one was March 05 whilst racing, am still recovering now... Broken ankle in 3 places and a hole in my knee.

Before that had a head on with a car in 2000, broken leg, multiple lacerations, broken pelvis and a load of other nasty bits and bobs...

Back riding again now and back racing too... Hoping to get back to a decent level as soon as possible...

Regards

Hi,
I'm Adrian.
No Trike or Combi at the mo,
I'm wheely WHeely into motorbikes /trikes / combi's /camping / rallying / & I also like a selective range of certain types of cars / hot rods /trucks /boats.

whilst typing this post I'm currently occupying my 8 wheeler wheelchair with delux bordom. and a wish to be back out riding motorbikes.

I've been around motorbikes since a kid in the 1970's.
I like pushrod engines -Don't assume I'm meccanical I only know bits.

I'm hoping to build a trike soon but probabally won't be able to manage it on my own.

about 4 yrs ago I moved to a new area & still haven't found the local motorbike scene.

I done a bit of camping & rallies last year; my main problem with camping & ralies has been the lack of disabled toilet facilities.

I noted a few had the same problems; the rallies where there were no diabled facilities there were no other disabled people going according to the Rally organizers.
All the above will be better this year because I let it be known to many rallying clubs last year I intend on going to thier rallies & will require disabled toilets.

So, I better go away & look at the rest of your web site, I haven't done so as yet; therefore I'm not too sure yet if this is a place for an old disabled biker like me. (my disability was not caused whilst riding a motor-bike).
